Heather Ramsay is an award-winning community reporter, photographer and creative writer who lives in Queen Charlotte City. She is deeply intrigued by lives and landscapes—past, present and future—swirling around British Columbia’s northwest.
Larissa Ardis is a Smithers-based freelance writer and communications specialist who works for newspapers, magazines, radio, organizations and businesses. When not slinging words, she’s often found chasing inspiration in musical environments, mountain trails, or her unruly garden.
Alisa Smith, a contributing editor for Vancouver Magazine and a correspondent for Explore, is a freelance writer whose work has also appeared in Outside, Salon, Canadian Geographic, TheTyee.ca and other publications. She is based in Vancouver and spends her summers in Dorreen.
Facundo Gastiazoro is a freelance designer who focuses on logos, posters, layout and illustrations. Originally from Buenos Aires, Argentina, Facundo is currently living in Smithers. His illustrations appear regularly in Northword Magazine.
Betsy Trumpener’s writing has been published in Canadian magazines, newspapers, fiction anthologies, and broadcast on CBC Radio. Betsy is currently on maternity leave from her job as CBC’s northern B.C. news reporter. She lives outside Prince George.
Lonnie Wishart has worked as a freelance photographer in Prince Rupert for 10 years. She specializes in tourism and travel portfolios, industrial portfolios, and environmental portraiture. There have been several exhibits of her work, including two at the Museum of Northern British Columbia.
Tanya Davidson is a self-described “major left-brainer” whose teaching experience has spanned from Hazelton to Houston. An enthusiast of casual recreation, fun games, and all sundry silly activities, she seeks to integrate creativity and learning into all aspects of life.
Chris G. Cooper, explorer, adventurer, professional wilderness guide and photographer, has spent 40 years exploring the world, but in particular travelling the B.C. coast by traditional Canadian canoes.
Graham Roumieu is an author/illustrator who has contributed to publications such as The New York Times, Harper’s and a bazillion other things. His book, The Autobiography of Bigfoot, was released May 2003. Graham lives in Toronto but grew up in Smithers.
Virginia Pohl is a photographer, writer and gardener living off the grid near Telkwa. Her photographs and articles have appeared in local publications, and her art cards are available across the North. She is involved with Northwest Personal Growth and Bulkley Valley Farmers’ Market.
Mike Nash is a Prince George-based writer, newspaper columnist, and author of Exploring Prince George: a Guide to North Central B.C. Outdoors. A backcountry recreation enthusiast for 35 years, Mike has written over 300 articles about B.C.’s outdoors.
Mike Weeber started photography in his teens. Nourished by artistic fulfillment, he has continued to practise the craft for over 15 years. He’s hard at work on a coffee table book, filled with his unique style of portraiture. He lives in New Hazelton.
Rob McMahon lives in Vancouver, where he attends UBC’s School of Journalism. Last summer, he was introduced to life in the North while reporting for the Prince Rupert Daily News. Rob’s writing has appeared in The Georgia Strait and Monday Magazine.
Janna Leigh Wilson lives in Skidegate, Haida Gwaii, and strives to balance a passion for writing with a busy life as a mother of two toddlers. Her first book, British Columbia: A Walking Guide (2002) was published in the UK. She is now working on a novel.
Ev Bishop, a columnist with the Terrace Standard, freelances for a variety of publications. If her nose isn’t in a book, and her fingers aren’t on her keyboard, she’s playing with her kids or hanging out at the lake.
David Jennings is a nature photographer operating out of Smithers. He enjoys working with light, capturing that split second in time and exploring his vision of the world around. He has taught many ‘How To’ courses over the years, and is now shooting professionally full-time.
Pat Carrie Smith is a freelance writer whose career began in journalism, moved into technical writing, and then digressed into computer programming. She actively participates in bringing arts events to Haida Gwaii, and enjoys outdoor activities.
Frances Riley is a part-time writer, part-time musician and full-time outdoor addict living in sunny Prince Rupert. Raised on a sailboat and currently apprenticing in the mountains, Frances loves singing—and writing—northern B.C.’s praises.
John Vaillant has written for The New Yorker, The Atlantic, National Geographic–Adventure, and Outside and Men’s Journal. He lives in Vancouver with his wife and their two children.
