Rob Budde teaches creative writing and critical theory at the University of Northern British Columbia. He has published seven books (poetry, novels, interviews, and prose poems). His most recent book is Finding Ft. George from Caitlin Press.

Amanda Follett is a Smithers-based freelance writer who can be found exploring northern BC with her two second-hand dogs in her second-hand truck.

Rob Sturney has lived in New Hazelton since 1981 and has taught at Hazelton High since 1994. He is fanatical about cycling, coffee and travel, especially if he can enjoy them all simultaneously.

Morgan Hite was teaching expeditionary backpacking when he stumbled into the Bulkley Valley fourteen years ago. Now he’s a bit more settled: making maps, writing, homeschooling kids, and trying to spend as much time on the ground as possible.

Hans Saefkow is an award-winning editorial cartoonist, illustrator and set designer. If you see this man, do not approach him, feed him, or listen to his idle chatter. It is simply best not to encourage him.

Angela Long wandered the world for many years until she found Haida Gwaii. She walks the same stretch of beach every day and never gets bored. Her writing has appeared in numerous publications. Her debut poetry collection, Observations from Off the Grid, is forthcoming from Libros Libertad.

Mary McDonald lives in Prince George with her partner and four-year-old son. From her random thoughts she churns out an occasional article, poem or letter to the editor. She has recently added the concept of ecovillages to her growing repertoire of eco-ideas.

Julie Chaplin is a Certified Holistic Health Practitioner. Born and raised in Ontario, she now resides in northern BC with her new family. With her pure love for life, you can find Julie painting, drawing, meditating and enjoying the great outdoors.

Tanya Davidson is taking time out from teaching to raise her son and explore the world of writing during naptime. This winter she is wearing big sweaters, wool socks, and turning off…her engine (whenever possible).

Facundo Gastiazoro is a freelance designer who focuses on logos, posters, layout and illustrations. Originally from Buenos Aires, Argentina, Facundo is currently living in Smithers. His illustrations appear in every issue of Northword Magazine.

Matt J Simmons really likes snow. When not pursuing powder, he moonlights as a freelance writer, pursuing his passions for writing, the great outdoors, and culture, both ancient and modern. He currently lives in Prince Rupert with his pregnant wife and his daughter.

Charlynn Toews has been in printing and publishing since 1985. She has published in daily and weekly newspapers, national magazines, and loves a good regional. She writes a regular column for Northword from her home in Terrace.

Tracy Morton is a family physician on Haida Gwaii. His philosophy of care is to equip people with the best available information to make health decisions that are right for them. Besides medicine, his interests include kayaking, climbing, cooking, travel, yoga and hanging out with his family.

Gail Cort, after retiring from competitive rowing (three-time Olympian), lived in New Zealand where she ran a fitness and lifestyle coaching business, coached sports, and raised three sons. She recently moved to Houston BC, where she is enjoying the northern lifestyle, the people, and the SNOW!

Sheila Peters is a writer living just outside of Smithers. Social justice and environmental issues as well as a love of the regional landscape inform her poetry, fiction, and nonfiction. She also loves a good joke (and some really bad ones).

Chris Howard is a forestry contractor and newly minted high-school teacher looking for a classroom. When not puttering around on his farm outside Telkwa he can be found on various far-flung surf beaches trying to cure his itch for the perfect wave.

Jane Stevenson, born by the Atlantic and raised by the Pacific, has lived in the Bulkley Valley for eight years. She presently resides on an acreage near Telkwa with her husband and two little girls.

Heather Ramsay is an award-winning community reporter, photographer and creative writer who lives in Queen Charlotte City. She is deeply intrigued by lives and landscapes—past, present and future—swirling around British Columbia’s Northwest.
